The Nannie Wood Land Trust
A Commonwealth of Virginia Land Trust, Established in 1989
About Us
The Nannie Wood Land Trust is a multi-million dollar, family-centered institution with deep roots in Rockbridge County, Virginia.
Presently, the Trust has multiple commercial real estate holdings in Virginia with several Fortune 500 companies. The Trust also oversees residential rental properties in the Shenandoah Valley. We are looking to expand into other geographical areas, particularly in the Philadelphia Region.
We are always looking for investment opportunities to accomplish our stated goals and look forward to forming alliances with businesses, (particularly minority-owned businesses) banks and lending institutions to build our communities together.
Our Vision
The vision for the Trust has four main components:
1. To grow the assets of the Trust.
2. To financially invest in communities of color.
3. To practice stewardship in an effort to improve neighborhoods with our commercial and residential holdings.
4. To function with ethical integrity as practiced by the previous two administrations.
Our Holdings
Our holdings range from commercial real estate to residential rental properties.
“A man only begins to grasp the true meaning of life when he plants a tree under whose shade he knows he will never sit.”
Dr. Elton Trueblood, 1955
Our History
The late Nannie Wood (1900-1992) was an accomplished African American businesswoman who thrived in her business endeavors in a time when Blacks were presented with few opportunities for, and even restricted from, business activity. A very personable woman, she was able to foster relationships with people which caused her holdings and investments to grow substantially. Because of her desire to pass her accumulated wealth on to her children and future Wood generations, a Land Trust, incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia was established in 1989. Nannie Wood served as the first Trustee and, at her passing, her son, the late Clarence M. Wood of Philadelphia served with distinction as Trustee for many years.
Our Staff
A third- generation family member, Fred Wood assumed the Trusteeship of the Nannie Wood Land Trust in March of 2017.
